Fundación Malecón
El Malecón is a new kind of working space, in constant contact with nature.
In the middle of the busy Mexican city of Culiacán, we find this green oasis that houses a foundation, responsible for improving the social development of the city through the upgrading of parks and other green spaces.
The purpose of this foundation is to change the mentality of the citizens, incentive them to walk more and leave the car aside. Those principles were also implemented in the building. A few functions, like the lunchroom or the toilets, are located outside the main building. In this way, the workers themselves also walk more and get in touch with the green outside. This is also the case with the offices, whom are all directly connected with an exterior space.
The original building, a century-old colonial house, was completely renovated and consolidated by the new volumes.
The result is an elegant balanced ensemble of the new and the old, where the arches, the plaster, and the contemporary rough concrete complement each other. But especially, we obtain a design that beautifully prioritizes the ambition of its users.
